National Park Proposals

THE SISSON PROMOTION ASSOCIATION

Sisson (Siskiyou County) California

February 23rd, 1912

THE HONORABLE WILLIAM H. TAFT,
President of the United States
Washington, D.C.

Dear Sir:

We beg to call your attention to a set of resolutions recently passed by the Sisson Promotion Association in which the people of California are asking that the National Government set aside and declare Mt. Shasta and suitable land round and about this mountain a NATIONAL PARK.

California has been wonderfully blessed by nature in the number and variety of her natural wonders and among them MT. SHASTA stands preeminent and the people of California are asking that this mountain with suitable land around it together with what little timber yet remains be set aside as a park to be enjoyed by all the people for generations to come.

We know of the many things you have done for California and the keen interest you have always taken in behalf of the people and your desire to have them enjoy that which nature intended they should enjoy and we ask that you kindly preserve to us this ancient landmark in all its natural beauty and your kindness will be very highly appreciated by the people of California and particularly those of northern California.

We beg to remain,

Very truly,

SISSON PROMPTION ASSOCIATION

By E.H. Kaupp
Secretary
