Step 1. Start with a medium-sized black sheet of origami paper with a white back.

Step 2. Turn the paper over and fold two diagonal valley folds.

Step 3. Valley fold the top corner of the "diamond" to the middle.

Step 4. Turn paper over. Valley fold diagonal edges to center as shown below.

Step 5. Turn paper over and valley fold diagonally from top to bottom.

Step 6. You should now have a triangular shape like the one below. Open up triangle so the mostly white side is showing.
Step 7. Pull the black square head of the penguin out and refold along diagonal as shown below.

Step 8. Notice the existing folds on the corner of the penguin's belly. Use this as a guide to reverse-fold this flap in, flip over and do the same on the other side.

Step 9. Valley fold the penguin's wings over towards the chest on both sides, being sure to make the bottom line of the fold meet the point at the lower tip. Complete wings by reverse-folding the flap that sticks out. If you want, you can use a pencil to roll up the tips of the wings.

Step 10. Make the feet by reverse-folding the lower point so that the "toes" stick out beyond the belly. This will be easier to do if you pre-fold the "tail" over until it becomes the "toes."

Step 11. The final step is the most difficult. You might want to practice this before you do the beak. On the lines indicated below, squash the beak into its final form using little mountain folds. The point where the three lines meet should be a peak.
