Figure 5a: Hand sample and thin section photographs of the Basalt of Pluto Cave. The sample was collected from an outcrop along Highway 97 just east of the Military Pass Road. Small phenocrysts of olivine (Ol) and gray lath-shaped plagioclase (Pl) crystals are set in a fine groundmass of augite (Px), plagioclase, and magnetite grains. Thin section field of view is 5 millimeters wide.
