Figure 9: Banded block of the Red Banks pumice collected from an outcrop just above the head of Avalanche Gulch. Note the contrast between the light dacite and dark andesite pumice layers. These bands sample two coexisting magmas that were mingled, but not mixed, during the eruption that created the Red Banks about 9,600 years ago.
