This course is designed for students who want to understand the workings of the world around them while satisfying a general education requirement. A survey of basic principles and terminology will be used to ensure understanding of some elemental problems facing the world today. Such topics as acid rain, pollution, nuclear chemistry, food production and consumer chemistry will be discussed. The course will serve as a preparation course for allied health majors and some biological programs. It can also be used as a preparation course for general chemistry (CHEM 2000). The UC will accept a maximum of six units for CHEM 1000 and 1100 combined. Lab. (AA, CSU, UC) Prerequisite Courses: MATH 0850 or 0851 and 0852.
