Academic Senate Resolution on the Associate Degree

 

WHEREAS the Associate Degree is the highest formal means by which College of the Siskiyous recognizes academic achievement, and

 

WHEREAS there is a growing statewide sentiment to upgrade the value of an Associate Degree, and

 

WHEREAS an option is available for COS to develo= p an Associate of Applied Science degree for students who do not plan to transfe= r, and

 

WHEREAS implementation of the COS general educat= ion philosophy statement has not recently been reviewed.

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the COS Academic Senate and the Office of Instruction appoint a joint task force to study and make recommendations regarding the requirements for the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees= and the possible development of an Associate of Applied Science degree. The task force will report back to the Academic Senate by the December 1999 meeting = with a plan for further action.
