Steps to Apply & Register
Welcome to College of the Siskiyous! To apply and register, complete the following steps. Note: For K-12 students, there are special requirements outlined on the K-12 Special Admissions page. If you are an international student, the steps to take to attend COS are outlined on our International Students page. If you an adult learner wishing to take COS Extension (Community Education) classes only, please see the COS Extension information page.
- Apply to attend College of the Siskiyous.
Click on the Apply Now button from the main COS home page or the words Apply Now on any other page to create your account with OpenCCC and manage your application with College of the Siskiyous. Once you have completed your application, you will receive your COS Student ID number, as well as your User Name for logging into Navigator. If you need assistance with the application process, email to the COS Student Help Desk. For further information on Navigator, see the Getting Started with Navigator page.
- Apply for Financial Aid & Housing.
Every student who intends to complete a degree, certificate, or transfer should complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Financial Aid) regardless of income. Once a completed FAFSA is on file at COS, you can check with a Financial Aid specialist to see what you may be eligible for. On-campus housing is provided by the Lodges.
- Complete the Math, Reading and Writing Assessments.
To determine which classes are right for you, set up an appointment to take your English, reading and math assessments at the Weed or Yreka campuses. You will need your COS Student ID and a picture ID to take the test. If you take your assessments at another college you will need to have the scores sent or faxed by that college to COS. - Attend a SOAR (Siskiyous Orientation, Advising and Registration) Session.
All new students who plan to earn a degree, certificate or transfer must attend a pre-registration orientation and advising session before registering for classes. Enroll in a SOAR session by calling (530) 938-5353(530) 938-5353.
- Register for Classes.
Register for classes online or in person at the Weed and Yreka campuses.
- Pay for your courses.
Fees are due at the time of registration. However, the College gives a grace period every semester. Check the schedule of classes to find what the grace period is for the month. You can pay in one of three ways:
If you are using financial aid to pay for your fees, please do the following:
- From the Student tab on your Navigator account by credit or debit card
- By calling (530) 938-5310(530) 938-5310 before 4:00 pm
- By mailing your payment with your COS Student ID to:

College of the Siskiyous participates in the Federal Direct Loan program. This is a low interest loan with many repayment options. Students do not go into repayment on these loans until 6 months after graduation, withdrawing from classes or dropping below 6 units. But remember, this is a loan and MUST be repaid.
- Log in to your Navigator account
- Select your Student tab to find your balance due: Schedule/Bill
- Select your Financial Aid tab and select Financial Aid Awards and award year.
- If your balance is more than your Financial Aid Award, you must pay the difference.
California residents, if eligible, can qualify for a fee waiver by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or completing a BOGW (Board of Governors Fee Waiver) application.
- Use Follow-up and Support Services.
After the semester begins, stop by Counseling and Support Services in Eddy Hall to ask any questions and receive help!
