Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Certified Athletic Trainer, and what do they do?

Certified Athletic Trainers are unique health care providers! Watch this short clip!

Where can I go after College of the Siskiyous to become a Certified Athletic Trainer?

There are a number of CAAHEP approved schools that provide entry level Athletic Training programs as well as a number of Graduate level CAAHEP programs. Check out this site for a complete list!

How do I become an Certified Athletic Trainer?

Currently the only way to become a Certified Athletic Trainer is to complete a CAAHEP Athletic Training program. There are both Undergraduate and Graduate programs available for interested Student Athletic Trainers. Here at College of the Siskiyous we offer two ways for students to get their feet wet in Athletic Training. We offer PEMA 35 Athletic Injury Management and Rehabilitation. This course offers students a general introduction to the anatomy, physiology, tissue healing process, and injuries commonly associated with sports. We also offer PEMA 36 Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries Lab. This lab style course covers all the hands on aspects of Athletic Training. In the Fall we cover common taping and wrapping techniques while also providing coverage of football games and practices. In the Spring, the lab course covers assessment techniques, therapeutic modalities, and therapeutic exercises.

What are the Training Room hours?

The Training Room is generally open Monday through Friday from 10AM-6:00PM or when the last practice is finished. Saturdays we are open as needed to accommodate practices and games.

How do I reach the Athletic Trainers?

You can reach Mike Paddack by phone, (530) 938-5858 (W) or e-mail paddack@siskiyous.edu

Where is the Athletic Training Room located?

We are lucky enough to have a new facility located in the New Athletic Weight Room located directly across from the Gymnasium.

Do the Athletic Trainers travel with any of the COS athletic teams?

Yes, both Athletic Trainers travel with football and occasionally we travel with other teams as allowed by the home practice and game schedules.
