2007

Dear Siskiyous Eagles Supporters:

I speak for myself, the coaching staff and the players when I say thank you for your donation to help our athletic programs thrive.  The baseball team’s efforts are especially something to be proud of.  It was encouraging to see the tremendous response we received from fans just like you.

On Saturday, November 11, 2006, I ran the first annual marathon fundraiser for the College of the Siskiyous Eagles Athletic Department.  It was a cold and snowy day with the temperature below thirty degrees.  Fortunately, I was able to finish the marathon in 3:15 and 28 seconds I was very excited about of my time with the conditions.  My assistant coach, Mike Kaczowka, encouraged me along the entire way, supplying me with water and Gatorade, and Dave Fontius, the assistant volleyball coach, even ran five miles alongside me when the weather conditions were at their worst.

My intentions for running this marathon were to help the team raise money and, more importantly, to show my players the
value of old-fashioned hard work.  When I first suggested this fundraiser proposal, there were different opinions on how well the idea would work.  From your financial support and personal encouragement, I ran the marathon with a positive attitude
and plenty of determination.  As I ran, I focused my thoughts not on how cold or tired I was, but on the tremendous efforts my players brought to the baseball field and to the classroom this past fall.  If we demand high expectations of them, they should demand the same from us.  Coaches and players together create a winning team.

Each student-athlete has done his part to see this fundraiser succeed.  Their reward   is truly exceptional: realizing that from hard work and the support of encouraging people, great things can be achieved.

Thank you, again.

Sincerely,

Billy Hefflinger                                                          Mike Kaczowka
