Sierra College won its 25th consecutive game on a sloppy field Saturday in Weed, 28-12, by capitalizing on three College of the Siskiyous pass interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Siskiyous freshman Alex Gaston continued his stellar season, gaining 145 yards on 27 carries and scoring both Eagle touchdowns on runs of 14 and 2 yards.
The Eagles had two interceptions of their own, but that wasn't enough to prevent them from falling to 0-2 in Mid-Empire League play and 3-4 overall.
"It was frustrating," said Eagles head coach Matt Sayre. "We didn't execute on offense."
Next up for the Eagles is this Saturday's game at American River in Sacramento.
Sayre said he didn't know for sure the status of starting quarterback Travis Newman for this week's game. Newman re-injured his shoulder early in the Sierra game and was replaced by freshman Kyle Plaistad of Oregon City, OR.
Plaistad completed 9 of 24 pass attempts for 80 yards, including 3 to Brandon Brammer for 37 yards and 2 to Jason Zarate for 25 yards.
Sayre said Plaistad had "a pretty good game" considering his receivers had a tough time.
Gaston was the Eagles' offensive player of the game, while Ryan Taylor and Adam Diaz were the defensive players of the game.
Diaz had an interception and 10 yard return, and James Carroway had an interception and 42 yard return.
Jarred Kuhl led the defense with 15 tackles, as Siskiyous limited Sierra to 90 yards of passing offense and 179 yards on the ground.
The Eagles had 80 yards passing and 154 yards on the ground.
