Avenging an opening match loss to Foothill (30-20, 30-22, 30-22), the Siskiyous volleyball squad rallied to run the table and win the consolation bracket at the San Jose City Tournament, Sep. 28-29.
The Lady Eagles responded to just their second defeat of the season by rolling San Francisco City College (30-17, 30-16, 30-13) for the second time this season.
Next, COS avenged a Sep. 1 loss in the Yuba Tournament to Reedley, winning this time around 30-24, 30-21, 30-15, before handling West Valley 30-26, 30-21, 30-27 in the consolation final.
Coach Tom Powers got strong performances from Jen Mendenhall, who has returned from a wrist injury, Crislyn Chewning and Reilly Johnston in the back row. COS improved their tournament record to 7-2.
Earlier in the week, the Eagles improved their overall record to 12-2, sweeping both Umpqua Sep. 25 and Diablo Valley on Sep. 27. They open their regular season Friday, Oct. 5, competing at home for the first time this season.
“(Friday's opponent) Feather River is probably the best team in the league,” says Powers, “but it's good to come home, and we'll be ready for them.”
COS also hosts Lassen next Wed., Oct. 5. Opening serves for both matches hit off at 6 p.m.
