![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Is There Life After Basketball? The end of the season is here and amazingly enough that happens every year! But it is always hard to imagine life after basketball. If you are an underclassman, you have a bizarre period of your life in which you are responsible for your own time and according to your own motivation. At least for them the large chuncks of time that exist where previously they were practicing, playing or traveling don't weigh quite so meaningless as for those that have finished their careers. One teammate of mine refused to wear any basketball clothes for the rest of our senior year. She went to clubs every night straight for a week and went from scholar athlete to Miss Hollywood glam in a day. I clearly haven't moved on, look what I do for work! While many NCAA players get drafted to the WNBA, most begin their careers in the fields with the "norms" (non-athletes) or continue on to graduate school. I know some DI graduates that started doing triathlons and one that is now a professional boxer! Do WNBA players retire to a plush life after basketball? Not for most of them: before every off-season the WNBA prints a list of internships available to their players who choose to stay and prepare for their futures after basketball rather than playing oversees. Even NBA players struggle to grasp the meaning of life after basketball: just look at Michael Jordan! He couldn't decide on one thing! The only conclusion I can come up with is this: there must be life after basketball because we are all still living, but it is surely a strange and sometimes lonely world without your team, coach and sport. No matter what level a person played at, the end of their career is a major life-altering event and I can only wish our girls all the best and let them know that they are not alone! (and are always welcome back!)
Congratulations Due: Kale Riccomini won the March Madness Pool! When asked what he plans to do with his new riches he said, "Get a sex change and join the COS women's basketball team next year!!!" ![]() Preparing the perfect schedule for the next ![]()
