More Powers to You

There’s another Powers with 88 athletes on her 1st team.  That would be Jennifer Powers, Tom’s wife, who is now in charge of the athletic study hall at COS.  When asked if it was hard to keep that many athletes on task she replied, “It is easier than keeping my husband in line!”  The power of 2.

Gabe Returns

Mike Gabriel has returned to COS after a long absence.  Gabe worked many years of basketball camp for Coach Powers in the 80’s and 90’s.  The two of them go way back to when Gabe played in college and Tom was in Jr. High.  10 years later they played basketball together through out California, dominating for years.  His wife, Kathleen, was hired in July to be the Director of Special Services on campus.  Gabe will be a big addition to the Eagle Basketball staff.

Offill Leads the Men

New Head Men’s Basketball Coach Billy Offill took over in July, replacing Coach Ed Madec.  Coach Offill (28) has been an assistant coach at Modesto and Mendocino Community Colleges.  Coach Offill’s first big decision as a head coach is finding a 4-wheel drive that he can afford.  Given Offill’s enthusiasm and energy, he is a welcomed addition to our department.
