Buttercup
Ranunculus sp
Buttercup Family (Ranunculaceae)
Flower: Yellow to golden with a waxy shine on the upper petal surface
Blooms: April to July
Leaves: Most are variously lobed or divided
Height: Most range in height from 1/2 to 3 feet
Stem: Erect or prostrate, with or without hair
Tidbits: The genus name comes from the Latin word
rana-frog which refers to the wet habitat of some species. Most buttercups
are to some degree poisonous, but the toxin is unstable and is rendered harmless
by drying or boiling the leaves.
