Lupine
Lupinus sp
Pea Family (Fabaceae)
Flower: Irregular shaped flowers with bilateral symmetry, mostly blue with white or yellow patches on the banner petal, some lupines may be yellow or white
Blooms: March to August
Leaves: Palmately compound leaves, with or without hairs
Height: Mostly 4 to 24 inches
Stem: Erect, with or without hairs

Tidbits: Lupinus comes from the Latin lupus meaning wolf. It was thought that the lupine robbed the soil of its richness, just as wolves robbed the shepherds. Actually, as member of the Pea Family, lupine puts nitrogen into the soil, leaving it richer than before. Certain types can be poisonous to livestock.
