Found: Common on disturbed areas and open mountain flats

Tidbits: Height of the plant, in contrast to length of stem often depends upon time of day. The stems tend to be prostrate during the cooler parts of the day. During the hotter times of the day, the stem raises the flower cluster above the hot exposed soil surface.
