Flower: Light to dark lavender to white, borne in terminal clusters

Blooms: April to July

Leaves: Persistent, opposite, thick and leathery, margins with holly-like sharp teeth, length less than 1 1/4 inches.

Height: Prostrate, 2 to 4 inches

Stem: New twigs reddish to reddish-brown, initially hairy but becoming smooth and greyish

Found: On sunny dry sites in mixed conifer or ponderosa pine stands

Tidbits: Forage value is low. Provides some protection against soil erosion.
