Commas, Yes or No?

Comma Rule #2
Place commas after words, phrases, or clauses that introduce the main clause.
Ask Yourself These Questions:
  1. Is the key word the first word of the sentence? If so, yes; always put a comma at the end of the whole adverb clause.
    1.  
      Unless the student newspaper can generate more advertising, readers will have to pay fifty cents per issue.
       
  2. Is the key word in the middle of the sentence? If so, generally no; leave the comma out.
    1.  
      Hypnosis still has its opponents even though the technique has a recognized place in medicine.
       
  3. Never put a comma immediately after these key words.
  4.  
    Although, hypnosis now has a recognized place in medicine, the technique still has its opponents.
