Objectives
A student
who completes this course should be able to:

demonstrate
a fundamental knowledge of how to write clear, effective papers free of
mechanical mistakes

show that
he/she is aware of the basic grammar, syntax, and punctuation that occur
in various types of sentences

use reference
tools (dictionary, thesaurus, library resources, and other helps)

enlarge
his/her vocabulary through reading and make proper word choices for a particular
communication situation

understand
the usefulness and make use of various pre-writing techniques

write
well-developed paragraphs and recognize the paragraph as a compositional
unit and an analogue to a longer paper
