Course  Objectives

A student who completes this course should be able to: 

  • demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of how to write clear, effective papers free of mechanical mistakes
  • show that he/she is aware of the basic grammar, syntax, and punctuation that occur in various types of sentences
  • use reference tools (dictionary, thesaurus, library resources, and other helps)
  • enlarge his/her vocabulary through reading and make proper word choices for a particular communication situation
  • understand the usefulness and make use of various pre-writing techniques
  • write well-developed paragraphs and recognize the paragraph as a compositional unit and an analogue to a longer paper
  • carry a paper through necessary revisions 
  • understand writing both as process and product
  • use word processing for writing and revising papers.
