If You Want an “A”

If you want an A.in this class, you will meet the following criteria:

  • attend classes (miss no more than one week's worth)
  • meet 100% of deadlines 
  • complete 100% of journal
  • complete 100% of grammar exercises 
  • complete and submit all drafts of all essay assignments
  • earn A's and B's on the exams
  • write essays at the A level (determined from portfolio grades only)
If you want a B.in this class, you will meet the following criteria:
  • attend classes (miss no more than one week's worth)
  • meet at least 80-90% of deadlines
  • complete 80-90% of journal
  • complete 80-90% of grammar exercises 
  • complete and submit all drafts of all essay assignments
  • earn B average on the exams
  • write essays at the A-C levels (determined from portfolio grades only)
If you want a C.in this class, you will meet the following criteria:
  • attend classes (miss no more than two weeks' worth)
  • meet at least 70-80% of deadlines
  • complete 70-80% of journal
  • complete 70-80% of grammar exercises 
  • complete and submit all drafts of all essay assignments
  • earn C average on the exams
  • write essays at the A-C levels (determined from portfolio grades only)
If you want to repeat this class, you will meet the following criteria:
  • sometimes attend classes (only when you feel like it)
  • meet fewer than 70% of deadlines
  • complete less than 70% of journal
  • complete fewer than 70% of grammar exercises 
  • complete and submit some drafts of most assignments
  • earn "whatever" on the exams
  • write essays at the C-F levels (determined from portfolio grades only)
If you want to learn, you will meet one of the above sets of criteria.  Therefore, if you want to learn, you cannot receive a D or an F.
