I plan to open the course on Saturday, Jan. 10th for those who are registered and would like to look around before class starts on Monday, Jan 12th.

If you are not registered and would like to look at the course please email me at glover@siskiyous.edu and I will give you instructions for accessing the course as a guest Jan 10-11. Only registered students will be allowed access starting Jan 12th at 6 am.

I will add at least 10 students from the Wait List on the first day of class.

If you are on the Wait List, please email me with your name and correct email address.

I will send out emails to Wait List students on Jan 12 with instructions for registering.

Course Description:

This course is designed as an introduction to and overview of the field of archaeology and the study of past human cultures through their material remains. Topics to be covered include the history, theory, and practice of archaeology.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, students should have demonstrated knowledge in the following areas by:

Recalling the history of archaeology, including its origins, and the contributions of archaeologists to the development of archaeology as a science.
Using archaeological and anthropological concepts and terms explain archaeology's scientific, theoretical and methodological approach to studying past human life ways.
Explaining archaeological objectives, including the determination of chronology, reconstruction of past life ways, settlements patterns, social organizations, recognition of general cultural processes and cultural change, and the application of archaeological knowledge to problems of the modern world.

If you do purchase online make sure you order the correct version, and that the books will arrive within the first week of class.

Another option is to rent your textbook. One online company that rents textbooks at very reasonable prices ( the last time I checked the above textbook was about $34 for the semester) is Chegg.com

Requirements:

You should be able to read at a 10th grade (High School sophomore) level, and be eligible for or have completed English 1A.
You expect to spend at least 9 hours a week: reading, participating in online discussions, completing projects, and taking quizzes and the final exam.
You must regular and reliable access to a computer and the Internet.
You will need Adobe Reader on your computer -- if you don't have it you can download a free copy at Adobe:
