Principles of Biology : Online
Resources
Our textbook publisher has put a lot of high quality resources online
for our use.
In order to access this material, you need to register on
their site and give the following code during registration: 8FC-43-7D8
The name of their system is ARIS. There is a direct link to this site
on the caldendar page. Once you are registred, be sure to make a
note of your username and
password, or have your browser remember them for you.
Once you get logged in, read the Welcome announcement and do what it
asks you to do!
Then, proceed to the first assignment: on biomolecules. None of what
you do on the site will included in my grade book, but it is a
supplement to our
lecture and texts and may very well be on our quizzes. Also, notice that
after each animation is a series of questions. After taking the quiz,
you'll be presented with the answers. I do think your actions might be
recorded in the gradebook on the site, but as I just stated, I'll not
be using those grades, so don't worry about taking the quizzes and
getting them wrong. On the other hand, I think that this can really
help you learn the stuff. I haven't been through all the animations for
the whole book, but the level of sophistication and quality seems quite
high. I wouldn't bother to send you to this site if I didn't think it
was worthwhile.
Notice also, that each chapter has, under the "Resources" tab, somthing
called "flash cards" -- This is a nice mechanism to remind yourself of
the important words and definitions. I strongly urge you to spend some
time on the site learning and reviewing the material.
