Welcome!
Welcome to the class introduction page for Introduction
to Compter Applications - CSCI 20. This page refers to the class
being held in the Spring 2008 semester in Greenshields Hall 3/4.
Please read the following information and contact the
instructor via email David Donica (donica@siskiyous.edu)
if you have any questions. You can expect an email response within
48 hours during the
semester. Make sure you use a descriptive subject line for your
email so it doesn't get accidentally deleted as spam.
Class begins on Wednesday, January 16th, 2008
and ends on Wednesday, May 21st, 2008. The class will meet from
6:00 to 9:00 pm. See the Calendar page
for the most current schedule of this course.
Course Objectives ~ Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course you
should be able to:
- Analyze a problem to determine if it warrants
a computer solution and what type of software would be suitable
to solve the problem.
- Be able to solve basic problems in information
management.
- Develop sufficient skill using the operating
system to copy files and disks, rename files and disks, and delete
files.
- Be able to solve simple problems using
spreadsheets and databases with the necessary tools and information.
Course Information
- Course prerequisites & recommendations:
Although there are no prerequisites, in order
to succeed in this course, students should have:
- A 10th grade reading level, including college-level
spelling and grammar skills.
- Reliable Internet access and the
ability to send and receive e-mail.

be discussed in more detail in the Syllabus.

In general, there are exercises to be completed each week, an
assessment quiz at the end of each unit, and a final exam to
be taken the last week of the semester.
- Time Expectations:
Expect
to spend approximately eight hours per week over the entire semester.
This will inculde 3 hours in the classroom and approximately
5 hours outside the classroom. You will be required to participate
each week, you will not be able
to
complete
the
entire
course
in the last few weeks. This is not an independent-study class.
Lecture notes
and assignments will be posted each week. You will have
to submit your work each week if you
want to
pass the course. Plan to be online at least twice per week
to get up to date information about the lectures, assignments,
and Calendar schedule.
