CSCI 28A ~ Web Publishing I ~ Fall 2008

Semester Project ~ Web Presentation

As the focus of this class, you are asked to produce a web presentation and to post the presentation on the Internet. This project is worth 150 points (21% of your grade) and is required to pass the course. The parameters are:

Any topic of your choice is fine as long as it is not offensive. The web presentation must have a "theme." The pages must relate (somehow) to one another. You are required to turn in your project idea for approval in the fifth week of class (9/19/08).

The presentation must contain the following components:

  • at least three web pages
  • at least one .jpg image and at least one .gif image
  • good design techniques, such as formatted text, titles on each page,
consistent navigation links, alt text for each image, etc.
  • links to other local pages of your design (at least 2)
  • links to relevant sites on the Internet (at least 2)
  • copyright information about ALL graphics used
  • all graphics files saved in the images folder
  • original text written by you
  • a reference to you as the author of the website
  • a "mailto:" link to your e-mail address
  • at least one table
  • at least one ordered or unordered list

All pages and images must be posted by you to the College's web server via the FTP process. You will need to ftp your files to the top level folder of your web space under your regular FTP account. This folder has been created for you. You will need to create an images folder that contains all your graphics files.

The project will not be graded until is has been "registered" by you via the submission of the Web Project Registration page. To register your project, you must copy the full url of the main page of your project site into the submission box. The full url will begin with http://, not ftp:// and should work from any Internet connection. Make sure to include the index page in the url.

Make sure you test this link before you submit your project or you will lose points.

If you do not want your project posted after the class is over, you will need to inform me through e-mail to remove it. Otherwise it will be automatically removed the next time this class is taught. NOTE: You will be not be able to FTP into the college server after the semester ends. Your COS account will also be disabled at this time. It is your responsibility to keep copies of your files.
