Weekly Exercise 19b: Read all of the steps before you begin
  1. Create a new page from scratch (or template) and save as exercise19b.htm
  2. Title the page - Multimedia Experiment
  3. Key in the first four paragraphs under the Heading - Automatically Embedding the Appropriate Player - found on pages 377 and 378
  4. Go to Google and find music to be played on your site
    1. This can be streamed or a free download
    2. If you have your own music you can have this play
  5. Create the code necessary to detect the operating system (OS) of the user's browser and then select the appropriate player - Windows Media Player for Windows and RealPlayer for all other operating systems.
  6. Have the music play on the appropriate player
  7. Clean up (tidy) the code so that each section is easily visible.
    1. Play with the size of the player to see how this works. Pick a size that is appropriate for your page
  8. Write a one or two paragraph description of the song/music
  9. Save your work and upload it to your student site exercise folder
  10. Create a link to Exercise 19b on your exercise index page and a link on the Exercise 19b page back to your exercise index page.
  11. When you have made sure everything works email the instructor. Include in the subject - Weekly Exercise 19b Completed. If you use the link provided the subject will automatically be entered.

Helpful Thoughts & Ideas:

  • Did you name the file exercise19b.htm ??
  • Do all of your links work?
  • Did the music load and run?
  • Do you like the layout of your site? How might you change it?
  • Don't forget to send the instructor an email when you are done
