Weekly Exercise 21a: Read all of the steps before you begin
  1. If you don't already have an account on Blogger.com, got out and create one.
  2. Create a blog on Blogger.com with a title and address of your choice.
  3. Do not use the advanced setup at this time. Choose CONTINUE
  4. Choose a template from the list provided. We will change/modify this template later.
  5. Start Blogging!
  6. In the Posting Tab create your first blog entry. Choose a title of your choice and then write at least one paragraph to introduce your blog.
    1. Insert at least one image of your choice
    2. Insert at least one hyperlink
  7. Post your first entry.
  8. Change the Blog Archive view to:
    1. Style - Hierarchy
    2. Options - Show Post Titles
    3. Archive Frequency - Weekly
    4. Date Format - Year: 2006 Month: Jan
    5. Save Changes
  9. Change the About Me view to:
    1. Decide if you want to share your profile or not
    2. About Me - Show on this blog is checked
    3. Name - First and Last
    4. Description - Write a one sentance description - be creative
    5. Location - Show on this blog is checked
    6. City/Town - enter your home
    7. Region/State - enter your state
    8. Country/Territory - enter Not Specified
    9. Save Changes
  10. Under the Settings Tab choose Basic and then write a brief description for your site. This will appear in the header of every page.
    1. Make any other changes you like and then Save Settings
  11. Under the Settings Tab choose Formatting and then make any changes you like to the number of posts, date format, ect - that you like.
    1. Save Changes
  12. Under the Settings Tab choose Comments and make the following changes:
    1. Comments - Show
    2. Who Can Comment? - Anyone
    3. Comments Default for Posts - New Posts Have Comments
    4. Backlinks - Show
    5. Backlinks Default for Posts - New Posts Have Backlinks
    6. Comments Timestamp Format - Your Choice
    7. Comment Form Message - Write a short message to those who comment on your page
    8. Show comments in a popup window? - No
    9. Enable comment moderation? - No
    10. Show word verification for comments? - Yes
    11. Show profile images on comments? - Your choice
    12. Comment Notification Email - Enter your email address (you will get an email when someone posts to your blog)
    13. Save Settings
  13. Create a link on your class web site that goes to your new blog.
    1. Create one link on your Home page
    2. Create a second link in your exercise area for Excecise 21a
  14. When you have made sure everything works email the instructor. Include in the subject - Weekly Exercise 21a Completed. If you use the link provided the subject will automatically be entered.

Helpful Thoughts & Ideas:

  • Did you setup the blog to email you when a comment is posted?
  • Do all of your links work?
  • Did your image load ok?
  • Do you like the layout of your site? How might you change it?
  • Don't forget to send the instructor an email when you are done
