Advisories:

It is advised that a student in CSCI 34

*        Can read at a 10th grade (High School Sophomore) level

*        Be able to compute fractions, percentages, and basic math problems

 

Objectives of the Course:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

·         Be prepared for the software portion of the A+  Certification exam for service technicians

·         Identify the basics of  PC operating system

·         Be able to understand the boot process

·         Be able to understand the different files used by the computer operating system

·         Be able to use command line utilities to trouble-shoot software issues

·         Understand the basics of Windows Vista

·         Understand various software applications including anti-virus, ftp, etc.

·         Understand the basics of email applications

·         Be able to encrypt and hide folders

·         Be able use event logs to trouble-shoot software related issues

 

 

Requirements / Grading:

I expect you to attend class, do the reading, and to bring questions to class to be discussed. Your grade will depend on both your active and informed participation and your performance on:

Honesty:

I expect and demand integrity and honesty in all of our dealings.  I have the right to drop anyone that I feel violates this trust. 

 

Attendance and Late Work Policy:

I expect people to attend class, to be on time, and to be courteous and polite if late.  I reserve the right to drop any student that has missed three or more class meetings.  If you have an emergency that comes up, please see or call me.  It is your responsibility to understand and follow these guidelines, they are not negotiable!

Students who consult or request assistance from DSPS regarding
