Ten Reasons to Become an Engineer

divider

    1. JOB SATISFACTION: Job dissatisfaction is the number one reason for unhappiness in the United States. I think you will agree that it is extremely important to find a life's work that is satisfying and enjoyable.

    2. VARIETY OF CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: The engineering field is as broad as there are forms of technology. Within a given field, there are analytic engineers, design engineers, test engineers, development engineers, sales engineers, and field engineers. In addition, the problem solving skills you acquire in an engineering education will make you very valuable to any employer.

    3. CHALLENGING WORK: Any engineering manager will tell you they have a huge backlog of problems to be solved. The person to solve some of those problems could be you.

    4. INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT: An engineering education will develop your ability and confidence in dealing logically with problems.

    5. BENEFITTING SOCIETY: As an engineer, you will have an opportunity to choose projects that clearly benefit society.

    6. FINANCIAL SECURITY: Engineering graduates earn the highest starting salaries of any discipline.

    7. PRESTIGE: Engineering is a highly respected field of study.

    8. PROFESSIONAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: You will be treated as a professional and work in a professional work envirionment with other professionals.

    9. UNDERSTANDING HOW THINGS WORK: You will develop a unique perspective in the physical world that most will never achieve.

    10. EXPRESSING YOUR CREATIVITY: If you like to explore, invent, discover, and create, then engineering could be the ideal profession for you.
