Purpose and Content
The purpose of this assignment is to launch the class into discussions of the authors' lives and of the lives of women through the ages.  You will present to the class a report on the life of one of the writers we are discussing or on a particular aspect of women's experiences.

The Technical Parameters
Please follow these guidelines:

  1. Your report should last 5 to 10 minutes, not including time for questions and answers at the end.
  2. You must submit a typed outline of the material you plan to cover.
  3. The typed outline must include a list of “Works Cited” or "Works Consulted" at the end.  Please follow MLA guidelines for citing your sources.

Grading Criteria
You will receive two grades, one for the lecture and one for the outline.

The lecture will be graded as follows:

A. You presented your material on the date you were scheduled to present.
B. You were not prepared on the scheduled date but presented your material at a later date.
F. You decided not to give the report.
The typed outline will be graded as follows:
A. Excellent—Your outline is well organized and reveals a breadth of research.  The information presents many little known facts.  You compiled information from many sources.  All your sources are documented appropriately, and your writing contains very few errors.
B. Good—Your outline is well-organized and reveals some good research.  It covers many facts.  You gathered information from several sources.
C. OK—Your outline is well-organized but doesn't go into much depth.  You got your information from only one or two sources.
F. You decided not to submit the outline.  Or you neglected to cite your sources!
Those are the basic grading criteria.  In addition to those, be aware that having several errors in grammar and mechanics will lower your score by one grade.
