Discussion
Board
Here is a different venue for us to discuss the
literary works this semester. This page contains instructions on
how to use the Discussion Board. It also contains some of the log
in information. (You may want to print this page for the instructions.)
To
begin discussing, click HERE.
Log In Information
Before you can begin discussing, you must log
in.
-
The username for the class is engl46 (that's
ENGL 46 with no caps and no spaces).
-
The password was given to you during class.
If you do not remember the password, send an email message to Mr.
Reynolds, and he will email you the password.
Basic Instructions
Once you arrive at the Discussion Board, you
will see a "threaded discussion," a list of links to the comments that
other people have added to the discussion. You should be able to
see who has participated as well as the dates when the posted their comments
and when they replied to other people in the discussion.
At the top of the screen, you should see a menu
of "command links." Here is what each of the commands does:
-
Content: Use this command when you want to
return to the main list of the threaded discussion.
-
Search: Use this command to search for a particular
word or phrase in the Discussion.
-
Post: Use this command when you want to begin
a discussion thread.
Once you open one person's comments, you will also
see the following "command links" at the top of the page.
-
Reply: Use this command when you want to add
a response to something someone else has said.
-
Next: Use this command when you want to read
the next person's comments in the discussion thread.
-
Previous: Use this command when you want to
read the previous person's comments in the discussion thread.
Important Recommendation
As you participate in the discussion, have your
Word program open in another window. When you are ready to post or
to reply, follow these steps:
-
TYPE your comments or your reply in Word.
-
SPELLCHECK.
-
COPY the whole thing.
-
Then return to the discussion board and PASTE your
responses in the "Comments" box.
-
CAUTION: The
text in this "Comments" box will not word-wrap at
the ends of the lines, so your paragraphs may
look like one long line each. MAKE SURE you double space between each paragraph
so that it will be easy for your readers to see where your paragraphs begin
and end. To do this, you need to add at least one blank line between each
paragraph in the "Comments" box.)
