Physical Geology/Lab
(CAN GEOL 2)
Physical Geology introduces the processes that are changing the Earth today. Within the context of global tectonics it explores the origins of rocks and minerals, the dynamics of processes such as volcanism and faulting that are driven by the release of Earth’s internal heat, and the sculpting of Earth’s surface by air, water, and ice that move in response to gravity and energy from the Sun. Lab activities will include the identification of
rocks and minerals, the interpretation of topographic and geologic maps, as
well as field trips to a volcanic terrain and a limestone cavern.
