College of the Siskiyous
Alcohol Education
Web Scenario
Welcome to the College of the Siskiyous Alcohol Information Web Scenario. Research shows that while you are pursuing your academic and personal goals in college, you will be asked to make choices concerning alcohol. These may or may not be very difficult decisions for you, but they definitely will be life altering. The purpose of this web program is to give you the type of information that will better prepare you to make these decisions. We understand that you alone will make the decision whether to drink responsibly, not drink at all, or put yourself in harm's way by engaging in risky behaviors. In any case, the College of the Siskiyous is ready to be of assistance.

This scenario is designed not only to decrease dangerous binge drinking among students, but to initiate a cultural change at COS with regard to students attitudes about alcohol usage. We have all heard stories about college freshman who die from alcohol poisoning. We have all read about how painful the experience is for parents or close friends of someone who has died tragically. We are determined that we should do everything reasonably possible to be sure that this kind of tragedy will not happen to our students.

.
This problem is not unique to COS. Universities
across the nation are challenged with similar situations. Many of you experienced
these same problems with your high school-aged friends. As a result, some of
you, or your fellow students may carry these attitudes to college, where we
are faced with the task of changing not only the incoming culture, but also
greater societal notions that binge drinking is an accepted part of campus life.
The COS student alcohol policy is that alcohol
is not permitted in the residence halls or anywhere on campus at any time.
The vast majority of COS students make smart,
responsible decisions related to the consumption of alcohol. I hope that you
will join the majority of our students who do not allow the illegal, or over
consumption of alcohol to jeopardize their safety, or their academic success.
I encourage you to be a part of this smart majority.
The information on this Web site will help you
understand more about the consequences of illegal and binge drinking and provide
you with an overview of our alcohol policies.
