I once heard a lecture that included the following analogy:

There once was a man who was walking up stream. As he walked he noticed another man being rushed down the rapids screaming for help. He ran to the side of the river and fished him out with a stick. After the drowning man had thanked him, he continued on his journey up stream. Soon he came upon another man being rushed down the rapids screaming for help. This continued throughout the day, and after he had fished out several men he finally asked? Why is it that you are being swept down stream?

The most recent victim proceeded to explain that the bridge had a huge hole in the middle & the unaware traveler would be taken by surprised and washed downstream. Immediately the man rushed up to the bridge and fixed the hole. You see, once the man found the problem it was easy to find a solution.

That is what services are set up for in colleges.

Their main purpose is to assist students to succeed.

If you don't utilize these services, and try to survive your educational journey on your own, you might succeed in getting to your destination, but you will be going about it the hard way.
