GUIDELINES AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have put together a few guidelines and frequently asked questions to help you get started in the online Health 10 class. Please be sure to read all of the posted information concerning the requirements for completing the online Health 10 course prior to starting the class. This information is found on the Health 10 Home Page.

  1. Papers, assignments, etc., that are sent to me after Midnight on Sunday will be considered late.  I take off 10 % of the point total for each week the assignment is late.  Only in the event of a great personal necessity will I not deduct the 10% for each day that the assignment is late.  You can ask me for an extension of an assignment but unless it is truly a documented family emergency, I expect all assignments to be turned in on time.
  2. Since this is an online course there is an expectation that the students have a good working knowledge of basic computer skills.  This would include, but not be limited to, the ability to ‘copy and paste’, format pages, etc.  I have a limited amount of computer knowledge, but I usually can rely on other resources to help me out if a student encounters difficulty in sending in their assignments.  Hopefully, we will not encounter any problems. But…
  3. All students in the class are held responsible for keeping a backup of all their assignments, tests, quizzes and papers.  I will always notify you when I have received an email from you.  If you don’t get a response after three days, I recommend that you contact me immediately.  I will also keep a backup of all assignments that you send to me.  In the event that your computer “crashes” you are still responsible for getting the assignment to me.
  4. The 'Submit Button' at the end of Exam #1 and #2 is not functional. DO NOT CLICK ON THE SUBMIT BUTTON. Both sections of each exam must be 'copied and pasted' to an original email or sent as an attachment.

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Can I turn in more than the required assignments for each week. NO. Although you can do as many assignments as you like to do, I will only grade the assignments that are due the week they are assigned.
  2. What happens if I turn in assignments after the Midnight Sunday deadline?  Please refer to guideline #1
  3. Will my point totals and grade for the class be online?  I will grade all assignments individually and email you your score.  I  keep a hard copy backup of each assignment that I receive and the point total that is awarded.  I have added ONLINE GRADES to provide each student with a current grade status for the class.   Be sure to enter your last name (in all CAPS) and password in lower case. (I will issue each student their own password once the ONLINE GRADES has been linked.) Students can inquire about their current point total and grade at any time.  I recommend that this should be done once a week during the eight weeks of the course. If for some reason there is an error in your scores, please notify me immediately.
  4. Do I have to select one of the topics listed in the Research Paper assignment?  No, but your topic and introductory statement has to be sent to me for approval.
  5. In doing the oral interview assignment, what if I don’t know anyone 75 years of age or older?  There are a lot of residential care facilities in the immediate area that would love someone to come in an interview one of their residents.  Just calling ahead and letting the staff know what the objective of the assignment is usually all that is needed.  The oral interview may be conducted over the phone or internet. I may allow you to interview someone one or two years younger than 75 but that must have my prior approval.
  6. Will everyone in the class know my email address?  When I create a group email for this class I will send out “blind copies” to each student.  This means that you will only see your email address on the email that I send to the ‘Health 10 group’.  Exchanging email addresses is left up to the individuals in the class. What should I do if I have a question or have special needs for completing this class?  Please contact me as soon as possible.  Times and information for reaching me are found in the course syllabus.
  7. Do not wait until the end of the course to contact me about “missing “ assignments.  I will always contact students within 2 to 3 days to confirm I have received the assignment or email.  If I do not respond within that time frame, contact me immediately.
