NUTRITION ASSIGNMENT
After
you have finished reading Chapter 5 in your textbook, complete the following:
NUTRITION ASSIGNMENT:
- Keep a record of all the foods you eat for three days. This
should include two weekdays and one weekend day.
- Total each nutrient value at the end of each days list.
Use a separate sheet for each day. This will include separate totals
for calories, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, cholesterol, sodium and
fiber. You will be using these totals in your nutritional analysis summary
and your comparison to dietary guidelines covered in the text or established
by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The text will also provide the necessary information for completing
the comparison section of this assignment. Note: the text does
not provide a "magic" box for comparison but provides
specific recommendations in the descriptions of vital nutrients.
Once you have the three day data on your nutritional
intake, I want a three to four page written evaluation of your findings.
This can be presented in three parts.
- Part 1 will be a summary of the three day calorie and
nutrient intake. Be sure to use specific data from the recording sheet
(ie., actual total grams of protein, carbohydrates, fats, etc.) to support
your general summary.
- Part 2 will provide a comparison of your nutrient
intake with dietary guidelines. Make sure that in this section you
use specific data from your recording sheet to compare with the dietary
guidelines found in the text or established by the Department of Agriculture.
By example, I don't want you to say that "I ate too many carbohydrate
and not enough protein." Instead, state exactly how many grams or calories that you differ from the dietary guidelines. In this section
you will analyze how your current eating habits may create future
health problems and/or how it might affect athletic performance, mood,
studies or energy levels.
- Part 3. Now that you have made all these discoveries
of your good and bad habits I want you to discuss how you might want to
make nutritional changes. Be specific and avoid just saying that you need
to "eat better". I am looking for specific ideas or plans that
you develop for making positive changes to your nutritional intake.
Remember,
this assignment is worth 100 points of your grade so please take your time
and if you have any questions, email
me. When you have completed the assignment, please copy
your work into an email message and send it to me at fontius@siskiyous.edu
