
A native Spanish speaker from Antigua Guatemala, I received my Master of Arts degree from San Jose State University where I specialized in Spanish culture, and the literature of Latin America and Spain. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from California State University, Chico. I studied at University Rafael Landivar in Guatemala in the area of Business Administration. Recently, I took a sabbatical in Salamanca, Spain where I continued my studies of culture and the civilization of Spain.
I have served as the director of study abroad programs for over fifteen years. Prior to my appointment at COS, I served as Resident Director of California State University, Chico's immersion programs in Mexico and Costa Rica and taught Latin American Studies. My teaching experience includes Stanford University, Chabot College, Foothill College and Ormondale Elementary School in the Bay Area.
My memberships in professional organizations include the Foreign Language Association of Northern California and the California Colleges for International Education.
My hobbies are music, traveling, reading and sports (soccer, baseball and tennis). While living in Chico, I worked at the KCHO radio station serving as a disc jockey for a Latin music program.
