Paraprofessional Requirements for Siskiyou County Schools

As part of the “No Child Left Behind “ program, Siskiyou County paraprofessionals will be expected to have one of the following:

• Option 1: To meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness) [section 1119 ( c) and (d)].
  • To satisfy Option 1 requirements, paraprofessionals must earn the COMPASS assessment scores noted below.
    Pre-Algebra: minimum score of 47
    Writing: minimum score of 65
    Reading: minimum score of 90


The COMPASS can be taken at the COS Weed (938-5353) and Yreka Campuses (842-1245). For sample assessment questions, go to: http://www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html.
Paraprofessionals must also pass a proficiency in writing essay test. The 25- minute writing test shall be taken in the same office. The essay will then be evaluated by the COS Writing Lab. A minimum passing score will be 3 on a 1-5 scale, 1=A 2=B; 3=C

• Option 2: Complete two years of specified college study.
• Option 3: Obtain an associate’s or higher degree.
