Frequently Asked Questions
Why are there limitations on the units that I take? California State law (Ed Code 760001d) allows a maximum enrollment of 12 units per semester for students who have not graduated from high school or have passed the CHSPE or GED. College of the Siskiyous only allows that maximum of 12 units for highly qualified students whose reading and writing skills demonstrate that they are qualified for university-level study. Why is it necessary for Instructors to sign if the student is under 16? Some courses and some topics are not appropriate for younger students. The COS faculty would like to speak with the students under age 16 before they enroll. What if the instructor is not available to sign? You can e-mail the instructor if they are full time faculty or you can contact COS Counseling Services in Weed at 938-5353 and we will help you contact the instructor in order to obtain the needed signature. What if the principal is unavailable to sign? The school principal signature is required. Some principals have provisions for superintendents or other school staff to sign in their absence. Can COS coursework count for both high school and college? College credit is awarded for all completed credit-bearing COS courses. Each high school decides if that credit will satisfy high school requirements. Check with your school regarding their policy on accepting college credit. How do I get college work to be reflected on my high school transcript? You will need to contact your high school guidance counselor.
