Parent Information How does Special Admission help my child? Students can earn college credits while still attending junior high school or high school. In some cases, college credit can transfer back to the junior high school or high school to use towards graduation. Either way, it establishes an official college transcript that may be submitted to any college or university or used toward a community college degree or certificate. How does my child participate as a Special Admission Student? Each semester, K-12 students may enroll in a maximum of six units. Students who score a minimum of 90 on the COMPASS reading assessment and a minimum of 65 on the COMPASS writing assessment, may register for “up to, and including 12 units per semester.” There are no exceptions to the 12-unit limit as per Ed. Code 760001d. Your child will want to download and complete the K-12 Special Admission Permit. At least one parent must sign the form (line #6) thereby providing permission for the student to enroll in the college course(s). As a parent what should I know about my child taking a college course?
