School Principal Information

If you have a student who you believe would benefit from college level work you may allow that student to take courses at College of the Siskiyous. (Education Code 76001-02)

During the Summer Session, K-12 students may enroll in a maximum of 6 units of Group A and Group B courses or a maximum of 12 units if the student scores a minimum of 90 on the COMPASS reading assessment and a minimum of 65 on the COMPASS writing assessment, making them eligible for ENGL 1A. Permission from the student's current school is required. Students are not allowed enrollment in Group B- non-exempt courses at College of the Siskiyous more than five percent of the total number of pupils who completed the above named student’s grade level. (Education Code 48800). The table below explains the A-B-C catagory

Courses that are exempt from the 5% rule
There is no limit to the number of K-12 students who may enroll in Group A courses. Students must obtain school’s permission to enroll, but enrollment is not restricted to 5% of each grade to enroll in these courses:
Courses that are not exempt from the state-mandated 5% rule. State regulations allow only 5% of the students from each grade level at each school to enroll in Group B courses. Students must obtain authorization from your school to be in the 5% of students who are given permission to enroll in these courses.
Courses that are only open to high school graduates
• Summer, Fall, Spring PEAC Physical Education Activity courses numbered 1-99
• Summer, Fall, Spring PEFI Physical Education Fitness courses numbered 1-99
• Summer, Fall, Spring PEMA Physical Education Major/Athletics courses numbered 1-99
