Commencement Information for May 2012 Graduates

Petitioning to Graduate at College of the Siskiyous

An associate degree is 60 units made up of general education, major (optional) and electives. Once you have completed all your requirements or are have registered for your final semester. Please complete the following steps.

Step 1 - Complete sides A & B of the Petition to Graduate. Click COSGE for COS courses that meet the general education requirements If you don't know which courses meet your requirements make an appointment with your Counselor,.

Step 2 - If you have not already done so, have official transcripts requested from all colleges that you will be using to fulfill the Associate Degree Requirements and have them sent to the COS Enrollment Services office. If you have the transcripts sent to yourself, do not open the envelope before submitting them to Enrollment Services.

Step 3 - Submit the completed petition to Counseling and Support Services at the Weed campus. Petitions should be submitted AFTER you are registered for your last semester courses.

GRADUATION CEREMONY

Date and Location
On the night of Commencement, May 18, 2012, graduation candidates will line up at 7:30 pm SHARP on the sidewalk immediately north of the gym and march into the gym PROMPTLY at 8 pm. We ALWAYS start on time. The Commencement will take approximately one hour.

Petitioning to Graduate

All students who are completing graduation requirements must file a "Petition to Graduate" available online or at the Counseling office. It is recommended that you petition after registering for your spring classes. The earlier the better! (Priority Deadline for submission is April 2, 2012). Late petitions will result in your name not being listed in the program.

Regalia (Caps, Gowns, Tassels)
All students participating in Commencement must wear a cap and gown. Iinformation regarding cost of regalia will be available in early spring when graduation packets are mailed to petitioners. Regalia will be available in the Campus Gift and Bookstore. Caps and gowns should be picked up no later than 4 p.m. on Monday, May 14th. You will receive your tassel at graduation practice.

Commencement Practice
It is VERY important for you attend the Commencement practice. It will be held on Thursday, May 17th at

3 p.m. on the sidewalk north of the gym. If you plan to participate in the Commencement Ceremony and cannot attend the practice, please contact Jan Keen at 938-5374. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND THE PRACTICE!

Seating
There will be reserved, unassigned seating available in the gym for the family and guests of Graduates on the night of Commencement until 7:45 pm (There is open seating after 7:45 pm). When you pay for your cap and gown, the cashier will give you five (5) tickets. If you need additional tickets, please contact Jan Keen in the Student Life Office. (Note: Graduates participating in the ceremony do not need a ticket.)


Pictures
Boss Photo will offer graduation portraits. Information will be included in the graduation mailing the first week in April. The pictures will be taken outside, behind the COS Library, from 5:30p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on the night of graduation. Be sure to bring the envelope and payment with you at the time of the shoot.

Graduation Announcements
The COS Campus Gift and Bookstore has graduation announcements available at a very reasonable price.

Reception

There will be a cake reception for graduates and their guests in the Student Center immediately following the ceremony.

Disability Accommodations
If you need special accommodations for the Commencement Ceremony because of a disability, or if someone you know is attending and needs accommodations, please call the DSP&S office at 938-5297.

Degree Mailing

Pending successful completion of your courses, your degree will be sent to the address on your graduation petition in late July.
