Counseling Services -Student Educational Plan

So you are ready to SOAR into your college career. When you made the decision to go to college you have selected a "goal" that you want to work for. Once you have established your goal you will need to know how to obtain that goal. That is where your Student Education Plan (SEP) fits in. A Student Educational Plan (AKA: SEP; Educational Plan or Ed Plan) is a map to your destination or goal. You are establishing in writing what your goal is and what you need to take and pass to reach that goal. On a separate piece of paper write the answers to the following questions:

1. What is your educational goal?

(A) Occupational Certificate

(B) Associate of Arts/Associate of Science

(C) Lower division transfer requirements or

(D) B + C

2. Look at your assessment scores. What class is recommended based on your scores?

Now check out your goal from above and see where your recommend course fits. Write down any other courses you will need to take for your goal.

e.g. Jim placed into Math 53. His goal is to transfer to a CSU. He will need to take Math 53 & Math 2 to complete his goal.

3. Pull up your General Education patterns from the list below. If you have an Associate Degree Major also download the appropriate major. Circle classes that you would like to add into your ed plan. If you are unsure what class you want to take in a certain area, fill in a general statement such as "CSUGE B1- Physical Science" instead of "ASTR 1".

4. Access the online Ed plan template from the button below. Type in all the information that you have accumulated from the above questions. Please remember that a typical first semester for a new student is 12-15 units. Make sure that you enter your classes completely- for example: Algebra should be written either MATH 56- Beginning Algebra or MATH 53- Intermediate Algebra or MATH 10- College Algebra.

5. Congratulations! You have just mapped out your first initial Educational Plan.Print out a copy and give to your SOAR leader and then save to your new jump drive.
