The Human Services program provides
students with a basic understanding of all major social, psychological,
and economic challenges affecting individuals or groups in
today's society. This program of study offers an academic
and experiential study of society's responses to human need
and provides instruction in the helping skills. Pursuing this
course of study means being interested in and committed to
finding solutions to human problems.

The Human Services program
offers four areas of emphasis:

Program Overview
The goal of this lower division
course of study is to meet the needs of career oriented students
who wish preparation at the Associate Degree or certificate
levels and to serve as an introduction to the areas of social
work, counseling, mentoring, gerontology, rehabilitation,
and other helping professions for students planning to get
advanced degrees. This program develops basic competencies
in advocacy, intervention, referral, recordkeeping, interviewing
skills, interpersonal communications, and assessment methods
while developing an understanding of basic theories and current
practices in the human services and helping skill professions.
This program is designed for
students who wish to acquire a Certificate of Completion in
Human Services. The certificate includes a required course
of classroom work and a supervisied field work practicum.
For success in this program, the student must be mature, emotionally
stable, and have strong writing and interpersonal skills.
Non-abuse and non-dependency on chemicals, including alcohol,
is required.
