Grant Application Process for COS Staff
COS
faculty and staff members often identify the need to secure grant funds
that can be used to implement special projects or purchase specialized
equipment. The following is an overview of the process that must be used
by COS faculty and staff to develop and submit project proposals that
can result in the acquisition of grant funds:
-
All grant-funded
projects must further the College's mission and achievement of the
College's strategic goals. In addition, they must be closely coordinated
with all other on-campus fundraising efforts. Discuss your proposed
project with the director of your department or instruction area.
Make sure you are able to clearly identify the problem you are trying
to solve and discuss how your proposed project will solve that problem.
If you need help identifying potential funding sources, please contact
the Resource Development Office.
-
If you and your
director decide you would like to move forward with your project and
have a funding source in mind, contact the Resource Development Office
to request a grant summary sheet, which will address key grant requirements.

summary.
-
A copy of the
grant summary should be given to your appropriate Vice President to
gain his/her approval of further exploration of the project. All individuals
planning to submit a grant application must obtain approval from their
Vice President. The request is then taken to the Administrators' meeting,
and final approval is given by the College President.
-
After you have
approval, contact the Grants Office to further develop your project.
We will help you outline a collaborative process for preparing your
application for funding. All grant applications are labor intensive.
Preparation of your application for funding will be time-consuming
and will require a great deal of energy and research. In some cases,
the application will be written for you. In other cases, we will simply
brainstorm with you to make certain that your plan is well thought-out
and complete in its presentation to possible funders. In any case,
you will most likely serve as the technical expert on the project
and will be asked to contribute your expertise.
