Purpose

The DSS Department at College of the Siskiyous was established to more fully accommodate the academic and support needs of students with disabilities. Student participation in the program is voluntary and all information is confidential.

DSPS provides programs and services for students with disabilities in compliance with both Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Mission

The mission of the DSS Department is to eliminate the educational barriers unique to students with disabilities as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act 1973.

Reasonable Accommodations

Reasonable accommodations provide access to education in a timely manner without changing the fundamental elements of the course. DSS strives to support College of the Siskiyous in the inclusion of our students as independent, responsible, and productive members of the community.

Responsibilities

All students are held responsible for complying with the Community College District Student Code of Conduct and other campus regulations as listed in the College of the Siskiyous Student Handbook (PDF file), as well as the DSS Student Handbook.

Eligibility

Students eligible for DSS services must:
1. Submit College of the Siskiyous application.
2. Submit College of the Siskiyous DSS Application (PDF file).
3. Provide DSS with documentation of your disability.
4. Schedule Placement Tests if necessary.

Each semester the student must meet with his or her DSS counselor to request appropriate services and sign a new Student Educational Contract.

Disability Groups and Means of Verification

The following disability groups are eligible for DSS services within the California Community College System. For a definition of these disabilities click on the appropriate link below.

It is important that you identify which category best describes your disability, and also determine the appropriate professional who can provide you with the required verification.
