
A variety of scholarships are available at College of
the Siskiyous for current high school seniors planning to attend COS in
the fall or for continuing COS students returning in the fall. Applications
are available in the Financial Aid Office or online.
The deadline for submitting applications is April 1, unless otherwise
noted.
COS Vocational Nursing Scholarship
A COS Vocational Nursing Scholarship is awarded to one or two, third semester
students enrolled in the COS Vocational Nursing Program. Applicants
must carry a GPA of 3.0 or better in Nursing 52 Theory and clinical performance.
The amount of this award will vary. Applications are available
from the the Nursing department.
COS Faculty Association Scholarship
The College of the Siskiyous Faculty offers ten (10) scholarships in recognition
of outstanding academic achievement. The scholarships are awarded to local
high school graduates with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.4 who plan
to enroll full time at COS. This $120 scholarship is to be used towards
payment of registration and health fees. Students are not eligible if
registration or health fees are covered by federal or state financial
aid. The scholarship may be renewed each semester for a total of four
semesters as long as the student completes twelve (12) units each semester
and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
Supervisory/Confidential Scholarship
This $300 scholarship is sponsored by the Supervisory/Confidential Group
at COS and is restricted to dependents of COS employees who graduate from
high school and intend to enroll as full time students at COS. Scholarship
payments will be divided into two payments, one per semester. To be eligible
for spring disbursement, students must have completed 12 units with a
GPA of 2.5 or better. Deadline is May 1.
Chapter VV of P.E.O.
This $600 scholarship is restricted to female students of the College
of the Siskiyous who have already completed at least 12 units at COS.
The student does not necessarily need to be a full time student. Applicants
must be at least 18 years of age, be a permanent resident of Siskiyou
County, and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher from COS. The
scholarship will be awarded in two installments, $300 for fall semester
and $300 for spring semester. Financial need will be considered. Two letters
of recommendation must be submitted with the application.
Ford Scholars Program, Ford Family
Sons & Daughters, Ford Restart Program
Ford Scholars: This scholarship was established in 1994 by Kenneth
W. Ford, the founder of The Ford Family Foundation. Mr. Ford wanted
to help students obtain baccalaureate degrees who otherwise would have
found it impossible, or at least very difficult, to obtain a degree without
financial assistance. ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must
be residents of Siskiyou County, California. They must have a high
school diploma or GED or be about to complete high school. (Or have a
passing score on the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) OR
they must have completed or be completing two years at an accredited public
or private two-year college in California. This scholarship is not
for a set amount, but is calculated to cover 90% of each student's college
costs that are not covered by other grants and scholarships, the family's
estimated contribution, and college work study grants. The scholarship
is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study. The deadline
to apply is March 1st.
The Ford Family Foundation Scholarship Program for Sons & Daughters
of Employees of Roseburg Forest Products Co.
This scholarship is for dependants of Roseburg Forest Products Co. employees
planning to attend an accredited college or vocational school in the United
States. The scholarship program is for students who, as of March 1 of
the application year, are 21 years of age or younger and are legal dependents
of employees of Roseburg Forest Products Co. Scholarship amounts are awarded
for both merit and financial need. An award amount is $2,500 for those
attending two-year colleges. At four-year colleges, an award is $3,500
or $5,000, depending on need. "Financial need" is demonstrated
by the recipient's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form
and college costs. The award can be renewed annually for up to four years
of undergraduate study. The deadline to apply is March 1st.
Ford ReStart Program
The Ford Family Foundation established this scholarship to encourage those
who are not currently engaged in full-time postsecondary education, to
enroll in certificate or degree programs at accredited colleges or vocational
schools in California. Applicants must be 25 years or older as of the
March 1st application deadline and have a high school diploma or GED.
Recipients may enter the program at any phase of their education, but
preference is given to applicants with limited college experience and
only when the applicant is not currently a full-time student. Academic
promise is demonstrated by submission of a ReStart Reference Form with
names, addresses and phone numbers of at least three references, and a
recommendation letter from one of the references. This scholarship is
not for a set amount, but is calculated to cover 90% of each student's
college costs that are not covered by other grants and scholarships and
the family's expected contribution. The scholarship can be renewed for
up to four years of undergraduate study.The deadline to apply is March
1st.
DISBURSEMENT SCHEDULE
Scholarship payments are dictated by the terms of the scholarship and/or
donor requirements. Generally one payment is made per semester.
If student resides in the dormitory, all grant checks will be disbursed
at the beginning of the semester and applied to the balance remaining
on the student's contract.
Additional Program Disbursement Information
Not all forms of financial aid are disbursed the same way or at the same
time. Cal Grant B, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity
Grant (FSEOG), and Pell grant and disbursed twice a semester; once at
the beginning of the semester and once in the middle of the semester.
Other Sources of Funds You May Explore
Other assistance programs are available for students such as TANF, social
security, rehabilitation benefits, CalWORKs, CARE (Childcare) and veterans
benefits. If you apply for assistance through the Financial Aid office,
the money received from these programs must be reported to the Financial
Aid Office.
The Student Job Placement Office, located in Counseling
Services in the John Mantle Building, will help students find part-time
employment in the community.
