College of the Siskiyous

Welcome to the College of the Siskiyous Law Enforcement Academy

The Law Enforcement Academy is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)

College of the Siskiyous currently offers a Modular Law Enforcement Academy which consists of the following classes:

ADJ 2517 – Regular Basic Course Module I 548

Cadets must complete the Law Enforcement Academy Modules in order – III, II, and I. Completing all three modules fulfills the minimum training requirement for employment in the State of California as a fulltime Peace Officer.

California Peace Officer Selection Standards

According to California Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031, every Peace Officer must be:

  • Free of any felony convictions
  • A citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship (CHP officers must be US citizens at time of appointment)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record
  • Of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation
  • A high school graduate, pass the General Education Development test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited or approved institution
  • Found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.

College Enrollment Requirements

  • Minimum age to enter the Academy is 18
  • Complete the College of the Siskiyous application process
  • Obtain written clearance to possess firearms from the Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprinting. Students must obtain DOJ Clearance prior to the first day of the academy.
  • Be free of any felony convictions or legal mandates that restrict or prohibit employment as a law enforcement officer or possession of a firearm.
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • All students must complete a medical clearance
