Library Cards

Residents of Siskiyou County who are not COS students may obtain a COS community library card for a $5 fee and borrow materials. A COS library card is renewable each semester. Applications are available at the circulation desk. Children under 18 must have written parental permission. Community resident library cards will be renewed without charge if the borrower has not had any overdue materials during the semester for which the card was issued.

Collections

The COS Library houses more that 35,000 volumes arranged in subject areas by Dewey Decimal classification, and about 100 periodical subscriptions shelved by title on open stacks. Also available are audio and video recordings, slides and photographs, prints, microfilmed resources, newspapers, pamphlets, college catalogs, telephone directories, plays, maps, and special reserve collection on local history and Mount Shasta. Online periodical and reference databases, and more than 10,000 full-text ebooks are available on our website, including off campus access with a library card.

Circulation

Most books and magazines may be checked out for two weeks. Materials may be renewed if no one else is waiting for them. Renewals can be made by telephone or online. Books may be returned to the outside bookdrop or deposited in the book return slot at the circulation desk.

Overdue Fines

All circulating materials have a Friday due date. Materials not returned to the library by closing time on the due date are subject to a $1 (ONE DOLLAR) FINE PER ITEM, PER WEEK, UP TO A MAXIMUM FINE OF $5 PER ITEM. Borrowers with overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional materials until the overdue items are returned.

Reference Service

Library staff are trained and abailable to help you find books and other information, or to assist you in using the catalog and indexes or access information using resources such as the Internet and subscription databases.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loan service is not provided for non-student communtiy borrowers. However, community residents can use the interlibrary loan service of their local public library.

Equipment

A coin-operated photocopier(10 cents per page) and microfilm reader-printer (25 cents per page) are available.

Conduct

When using the COS library, community visitors will observ College policies, including the COS Student Code of Conduct, Internet Use Policy and library guidelines on Internet use.

Library Hours

Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The library is closed on holidays and when classes are not in session. Summer and weekend hours may be scheduled. Current schedule and hours.
