Japanese paper folding

Ori means fold and gami means paper, hence origami is the art of Japanese paper folding. Origami is now popular world-wide. If incisions are made in the origami figure, it is called kirikomi. Paper cutting Chinese-style (rather like the "snowflakes" we made in elementary school) is called kirigami. What do you think kiri means? Origami architecture is a type of kirigami.
