College of the Siskiyous is in the process of moving from the Etudes Learning Management System (LMS) to the Canvas LMS. As we make the transition, we wanted to post some information to answer questions you may have.

How do I log in to Canvas?
Go to https://siskiyous.instructure.com and use your Navigator User Name and Password to log in. If you need assistance, contact the Student Help Desk at (530) 938-5523 or studenthelpdesk@siskiyous.edu. There are also help pages for students and for faculty with additional resource links.

Why are we moving to Canvas?
Canvas has been selected as the Common Course Management System – also Learning Management System (LMS) - by the California Community Colleges. We receive the new LMS for several years at no additional cost to the District and at a low cost after that time. Other statewide initiatives will be built to integrate with each other and with Canvas, so there will be additional benefit to us of using the statewide adopted LMS.

What are the differences between Canvas and Etudes?

Etudes and Canvas are alike in many ways, but different in several also. The Online Education Initiative has posted an Etudes to Canvas transition document to give you more information. For instructors, there is also a conversion "course" specifically developed for Etudes that is available to you when you log in to Canvas. It contains instructions on how to migrate most of your Etudes course material to Canvas. We will also be able to use Canvas more easily for "non-course" uses such as trainings, new student orientation, online tutoring, etc.

What is the timeline for transition to Canvas?
Both Canvas and Etudes courses will be taught in Spring 2017. Starting with the Summer 2017 semester, all of our online courses will be taught using Canvas.

What training is available for instructors?
Canvas Fundamentals training is offered through Instructure as part of the agreement through the CCC’s Online Education Initiative (OEI). If you are interested in taking that training or our own Canvas training class, please write to canvas.admin@siskiyous.edu. @ONE also offers many Canvas training sessions on multiple topics.
